About Us

Who We Are

In many states a majority of students who are preparing to become teachers are beginning their college careers at community colleges. Studies have shown more than 50% of teachers attended a community college for at least part of their education.

Community colleges are responding by developing creative and innovative state of the art transfer programs in teacher education. In addition, community colleges have added coordinated programs for transfer, new certificate and associate degree programs, and augmented support services, all of which has increased student access to and completion of teacher preparation programs.

The National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs (NACCTEP) is an organization of:

• Community Colleges.
• Staff and students involved in teacher education programs.
• Universities involved in teacher education programs.
• Industry partners and professional associations who work as partners with community college teacher education programs.

NACCTEP supports institutions and individuals and serves as a voice for community colleges in national discussions about teacher education. It works to enhance current community college teacher education programs and serves as a resource for those looking to develop new programs. NACCTEP facilitates connections between and among community college teacher education programs and community college teacher education faculty. It is home to a network of these programs, professionals, and students connected to them.

NACCTEP members offer a variety of teacher education programs on their campuses. Associates of Arts in Teaching (AAT), early childhood certification, 2+2 programs, baccalaureate programs, alternate routes to teacher certification, post baccalaureate programs, and paraprofessional programs are just a few examples of the teacher education programs being offered by our members.

With accessibility, adaptability, and fostering of innovative partnerships, we are positioned to address teacher shortages and quality. Become a pioneer in this exciting and important Association and join today. Visit the NACCTEP web site www.nacctep.org for a membership application.
