Membership Renewal Time!

NACCTEP membership expires on June 30th of each year. Renewal invoices were mailed in mid April to the primary member. Convenient membership renewal is available online at www.nacctep.org.

Your membership is what helps to make NACCTEP a stronger unified voice for community college teacher education programs nationwide. The Executive Board and NACCTEP staff are working hard to provide additional benefits to members each year and we need your continued support.

As a NACCTEP member, you have the opportunity to be at the forefront of change, by advocating and promoting the role of community colleges in teacher education at your campus and nationally.

Highlights of NACCTEP Spring Board Meeting

The NACCTEP Executive Board held the Spring Board meeting on March 25, 2010, in Baltimore, Maryland before the national conference.

The NACCTEP State Ambassador Program will continue recruitment in 2010-2011. Arturo Montiel continues to refine the Ambassador’s duties. It is the goal of the Board to have an Ambassador for NACCTEP as a link or connection in each state. If you are interested in volunteering for this position please contact NACCTEP at nacctep@domail.maricopa.edu.

The Board discussed revisions to the 2011 national conference schedule. The Board is always working on was to respond to conference attendees’ comments and needs. The 2011 national conference schedule is available on the website at www.nacctep.org.

Community College legislative topics for the Fall Hill visits were also discussed. Each year, the Board develops a focus for visits with legislators. This will be a topic during the Presidents Transition meeting in late May. The Presidents will work to narrow the focus that will best promote the community college role in teacher education.

Melissa Panagides-Busch, Academy for Education Development’s Vice President and Director, Center for Education Policy and Practice, and Sean Cavanagh, Academy for Education Development author/editor of the White Paper Improving the Skills and Credentials of Migrant, Seasonal, and American Indian/Alaska Native Head Start Teachers: Building from Within, were guest speakers during the meeting. They discussed the development of the White Paper and the important role that community colleges play in bridging the educational gap for Head Start teachers.
