National Science Foundation Grants

Through this interactive grant session, Joan Prival from the National Science Foundation (NSF) will share with participants grants opportunities and ideas for their community college teacher education staff, students, and programs.

NSF provides almost $80 million per year for community colleges, primarily through the Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE). This session will focus on the programs that support teacher education including the Robert Noyce Scholarship Program and the Math and Science Partnership Program as well as other programs in DUE that have traditionally provided significant support to community colleges including Advanced Technological Education (ATE); Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI); S-STEM, and the STEM Talent Expansion Program (STEP). The session will include tips on writing successful proposals.

The Millennials (Gen Y) are here. This generation is nothing like the GenXer’s, is not committed to Boomer ideals, and is the focus of major media and marketing campaigns. Labeled Mooks and Midriffs by marketing firms, and then taught to become Mooks and Midriffs by these same firms, the Millennials are entering college and careers at remarkable rates. Teacher Education programs need to learn how to attract, engage, educate, and retain this generation as well as look at new opportunities for pedagogical and curricular paradigm shifts.

An Update: Community Colleges Offering Teacher Education Baccalaureate Degrees

This joint session is a collaborative effort between Community College Baccalaureate Association and NACCTEP to provide an update on the development of teacher education programs, especially baccalaureate degree initiatives throughout the United States. Various models will be addressed.
